Home Care Vision Services

HOME CARE VISION SERVICES

On-Hold due to COVID-19.  Patients requiring home services are advised to utilize our telehealth platform.

The Home Care Vision Services Program at the Spectrios Institute provides comprehensive eye care in the comfort of the patient’s residence, which includes assistive and independent living facilities. These services are available to patients living in Chicago and surrounding western suburbs.

The purpose of our in-home services program is to provide thorough eye examinations, corrective lenses, and other vision aids and devices to people in DuPage and Kane counties and parts of Cook County who are unable to obtain transportation to a qualified vision care provider due to physical, health, and/or psychiatric conditions.

Anyone who has been certified by a physician as being homebound and able to receive home health benefits may participate in our Home Care Vision Services program. An individual does not need to be bedridden to be considered confined to their home. However, the patient must show that leaving the home requires a considerably taxing effort.

Services We Provide*:

  • Dilated eye exams
  • Low vision exams
  • Monitoring of glaucoma symptoms, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye conditions like diabetic retinopathy
  • Provision of prescriptive magnifiers and other low vision aids
  • Eyeglass prescriptions and fittings
  • Referrals to vision specialists as needed

*Services are determined based on the patient’s medical history and need

Why Annual Vision Exams Are Important

A comprehensive annual eye exam is the first line of defense when it comes to protecting your vision. Many homebound individuals have difficulty accessing vision care services due to mobility and health concerns. The Home Care Vision Services program provides exams, education, and monitoring to those who cannot access care in their local community.

Costs

Medicare or commercial insurance may cover the cost of a homebound vision exam. HMO plans require a prior referral authorization from a primary care doctor. Financial assistance is available to low-income individuals who qualify.
