Spectrios Institute 40 Stories of Hope in 40 Weeks
"We Never Felt Rushed"

“We Never Felt Rushed”, The Spectrios Difference:

How comprehensive low vision care, including occupational therapy, assistive technology training, and a little support from the compassion fund became the difference between hopelessness and independence in Anna’s low vision journey.

For Anna, newspapers and books had become out of reach. After visiting Spectrios Institute for Low Vision, she can read them again. Her granddaughter and support coach, Diana, joined along for Anna’s whole journey through the Spectrios Care team. She sat in for the comprehensive exam, listened to the patient guidance from the occupational therapist, Katrina, and hands-on help from Access Technology lab where Anna learned to use a new reading device. In their words, Spectrios didn’t just provide excellent eye care. It looked for ways to make low vision more manageable and affordable. Here is their story.

We had such a wonderful experience at Spectrios Low Vision Clinic. From the moment we arrived, we felt that my grandma was truly cared for and that everyone was committed to helping her see and function better.

Dr. Williams was incredibly caring, patient, and thorough. Her eye examination took about three hours, but it was clear that every part of the exam was done carefully and with great attention to detail. We never felt rushed. Dr. Williams took the time to understand my grandma’s specific vision needs and made sure she received the best care possible.

Katrina, the occupational therapist, was wonderful as well. She was so patient and helpful while working with my grandma on the glasses, fittings, and therapy. She took the time to make sure everything was comfortable and that my grandma understood how to use her glasses to get the most benefit from them.

We also want to give a special thank-you to Mark, the technician who helped us with the new reading device. He was extremely helpful and took the time to show us how everything worked. Thanks to his help, my grandma now has a special device that allows her to place a newspaper, book, or other printed material underneath it and enlarge it so she can read again.

What impressed us most is that Spectrios doesn’t just provide excellent eye care — they truly look for ways to make low vision more manageable and affordable. My grandma was able to get her glasses at a very discounted price, with only a minimal payment. She was also able to receive a grant for the reading device, which has made such a meaningful difference in her everyday life.

Being able to read newspapers and books again has brought my grandma so much happiness and independence. We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Williams, Katrina, Mark, and the entire Spectrios team for their kindness, compassion, patience, and genuine desire to help.

We wholeheartedly recommend Spectrios Low Vision Clinic to anyone experiencing low vision, especially seniors and their families. If you or someone you love is struggling with vision, please consider making an appointment with them. The care, personalized attention, therapy, and resources they provide can truly make a life-changing difference. We are so thankful we found Spectrios!
