A Trip to Cosley Zoo with Grandma Martyl's Low Vision Day Camp
At Cosley Zoo, we had a meet and greet with a couple of the zoo inhabitants, and everyone had the opportunity to pet them and experience the difference in texture.
The first animal was a Himalayan Rabbit that was soft and fluffy.
Next up we met the Eastern Blue-Tongued Skink which had a noticeably different texture. Unlike the soft, fluffy rabbit, the skin of the skink was smooth and scaly.

After getting acquainted with the skink and rabbit, we took some time to wander around the rest of the zoo and check out the other inhabitants. Cosley Zoo is home to a variety of animals, including Turkey Vultures, Screech Owls, Coyotes, Guinea Hogs, and many more. You’ll have to go see the variety for yourself or check out the species list.
While wandering, we ran into the Critter Cart and got to learn about different kinds of eggs. The difference in size of the eggs was very interesting. The smallest egg came from a Hummingbird and the largest from an Ostrich.

The trip to Cosley Zoo and lunch with the Wheaton Lions were only a couple of the exciting activities that the Grandma Martly Low Vision Day Camp take part in. This year, other activities included a trip to Whim Art Studios, a potted plant workshop at Aster Gardens, a tactile tour at the White Sox Stadium, a few rounds of bowling at Fox Bowling, soapmaking at Soapy Roads, and a trip to the FONA Flavor university.
Campers also enjoyed making tie-dyed shirts and kindness rocks, and lessons on access tech and apps plus cooking tips.
