Celebrating 20 Years of Impact: The Partners with Vision Gala
For 20 years, the Spectrios Institute for Low Vision has been hosting an event that embodies resilience, generosity, and community—the Partners with Vision Gala. This year, we celebrate this milestone with our Emerald City theme on April 26, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Lisle near Naperville (1400 Corporetum Dr, Lisle, IL 60532). More than just a fundraiser, this event is a powerful testament to the mission of Spectrios: empowering individuals with vision loss through visual rehabilitation.
A Legacy Rooted in Philanthropy
The journey of the Spectrios Institute began with a vision—one shared by our founder, Dr. P.K. Gieser, and a generous benefactor, Edwin Deicke, whose initial gift helped establish the Deicke Center for Visual Rehabilitation in 1986. Under the leadership of Dr. R. Tracy Williams and with the early support of Drs. David and Richard Gieser, the Deicke Center grew into what is now Spectrios Institute for Low Vision.
The first Spectrios Gala, held in 2005, was an evening that blended music and philanthropy. It set the stage for two decades of impact, providing essential funding for comprehensive visual rehabilitation programs, including financial assistance for low-vision patients and the Seeing is Believing program, which provides free eye exams and assistive devices to K-12 students across Illinois.
Why the Emerald City?
This year’s theme—The Emerald City—is a perfect reflection of our mission. Emeralds symbolize growth and renewal, values at the heart of Spectrios’ work. The Emerald City from The Wizard of Oz represents the pursuit of something greater, much like our commitment to empowering individuals with vision loss. Just as Dorothy and her friends journeyed toward courage, heart, wisdom, and home, we continue to pave the way for independence and hope through our specialized vision care services.
A Night of Celebration and Giving
On April 26, guests will experience an unforgettable evening filled with inspiration, entertainment, and philanthropy. Highlights of the Partners with Vision Gala include:
- Dr. Eleanor Faye Award: In memory of Kirk Packo, MD (Posthumous)
Clarence E. Troyer Volunteer of the Year Award: Honoring Debbie Gregorash for her dedicated service to Spectrios, from serving on the Board of Directors to volunteering at events.
Partners with Vision Award: Celebrating Charlie Smith, a passionate advocate and Spectrios patient, for his work in raising awareness for those with vision loss.
Special Guest Speakers: Hear firsthand from a Spectrios patient and a student from the Seeing is Believing program, whose stories highlight the life-changing impact of visual rehabilitation.
Exciting Auctions: Guests will have the opportunity to bid on exclusive experiences, luxury items, and travel packages, with all proceeds directly supporting Spectrios’ mission.
